According to NBA insider Jack Fisher on Thursday, the Los Angeles Lakers have held preliminary discussions with the Milwaukee Bucks regarding a trade proposal. They plan to send Dalton Knecker along with a second-round draft pick to the Bucks in exchange for 27-year-old center Jericho Sims.
The Lakers' main objective in this move is to reduce the number of standard contracts on their roster from 16 to 15 and to make targeted improvements to their frontcourt. However, some sources are pessimistic, believing the trade is unlikely to go through.
The 25-year-old Kneckert plays as a swingman and was selected by the Lakers with the 17th overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NBA draft. To date, he has played 132 regular season games for the Lakers, averaging 7.1 points and 2.2 rebounds in 15.5 minutes per game, with a field goal percentage of 46.0% and a three-point percentage of 36.8%.
Sims is currently the Bucks' third-choice center, behind Myles Turner and Kyle Weir in the draft. Since joining the Bucks in February 2025, he has played 81 regular season games, averaging 4.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 18.9 minutes per game, with a field goal percentage of 77.1%.
The Bucks' consideration of trading Sims is undoubtedly related to their limited roster spots for the new season. Besides Sims, Caris LeVert and Kevin Porter Jr. are also potential trade targets for the Bucks.
Compared to Sims, Knecker has consistently failed to maintain a high level of shooting efficiency and defensive intensity with the Lakers. If a trade cannot be finalized by next Monday, the player may face the risk of being waived.
