ESPN senior insider Shams Charania reported exclusively on Thursday that New York Knicks center Drew Eubanks has suffered a torn pectoral muscle and will be waived by the team.
According to Charania, the injury is severe, and Eubanks is expected to remain sidelined for an extended period, likely continuing well into the regular season.
However, because Eubanks signed an Exhibit-9 training camp deal with the New York Knicks, he is entitled to a one-time payment of $15,000 while he is sidelined due to the injury.
Following Eubanks' waiver, the final roster spot for a backup center with the Knicks will effectively go to James Wiseman.
Barring any surprises, center Tony Bradley and shooting guard Ochai Agbaji are expected to be the next players waived by the team.
The 29-year-old Eubanks began his professional career after going undrafted in the 2018 NBA Draft. He was invited by the San Antonio Spurs to play in the Las Vegas Summer League and subsequently signed a two-way contract with the franchise.
Since then, he has played for the Austin Spurs (the team's G League affiliate), the Portland Trail Blazers, the Phoenix Suns, the Utah Jazz, the Los Angeles Clippers, and the Sacramento Kings.
Eubanks joined the Knicks in September. During his brief stint with the Eastern Conference NBA team, he appeared in three preseason games, recording a total of 13 points and 3 rebounds.
