Former Cremona manager Davide Nicola has officially taken over as manager of Venezia, with his term lasting until 2028.

Venice announced on Wednesday the official appointment of 53-year-old Davide Nicola as first-team coach. The two sides signed a two-year contract, valid until the end of the 2027/28 season.

The official announcement also confirmed that Venice's coaching staff will welcome three new members: technical assistant Manuele Caccia, fitness coach Gabriele Stopino, and goalkeeper coach Lorenzo Squiczyk.

Nicola was born in 1973 in Lucerne San Giovanni, Turin. After retiring as a player in 2010, he transitioned to coaching at Lumezzane. He subsequently coached several teams, including Livorno, Bari, Crotone, Udinese, Genoa, Torino, Salernitana, Empoli, Cagliari, and Cremona, accumulating extensive experience in avoiding relegation.

However, Nicola has been unemployed since being dismissed from Cremona in March. His appointment as manager of Venice, replacing Giovanni Stropa, marks his return to the helm after a six-month hiatus.

For Nicola, his main task upon taking office is to lead Venezia out of the relegation crisis. Venezia has had a poor start to the season, currently sitting at the bottom of Serie A with six losses in six matches.

After signing the contract, Nicola said: "I chose to coach Venezia because I saw a long-term plan, a strong desire to build, and huge potential for growth at the club. Director Filippo Antonelli, whom I have known for a long time, also played a key role in my decision, as he made me feel the club's desire for me. I watched the team's recent matches and found that the players showed good chemistry."

"I am full of passion and have an incredibly strong desire for victory. I long to return to the field to help us avoid relegation. For my profession, the most important thing is to inspire people and write a chapter in history that will stand the test of time. This should be our goal, and we must work hand in hand with the fans to achieve it."
