The 2026/27 UEFA Europa League season will enter its second round, with Italian giants Juventus traveling to face La Liga side Celta Vigo. At a press conference, Spalletti stated that the competition provides the team with an opportunity to unlock the potential of its players and urged the "Old Lady" to avoid any moments of weakness during the match.
In the first round of the Europa League, Juventus defeated NEC Nijmegen 5-0 after goals from Nicolás González, Alaibegovic, Walter Madd, Zeki Celiac, and Muani.
However, in the earlier Serie A match, Juventus could only manage a 1-1 draw against Cagliari away from home.
Juventus coach Spalletti said, "This competition allows us to give more playing time to players who have had fewer opportunities to play. I need to give other players rest and recover their fitness. The Europa League also provides us with the opportunity to observe other players and further understand what potential can be tapped in the squad."
"There are many strong teams in the Europa League, some of which are fully capable of participating in the Champions League. Celta Vigo has a group of technically excellent and experienced players who are highly competitive in both attack and defense. We must not appear to be at a disadvantage at any point in the game; we must perform at our highest level, because this is what we and the club should demand of ourselves."
Spalletti pointed out, "Given the current tight schedule, and the fact that we have a strong squad rather than just 11 regular starters, rotation is crucial. For example, Gatti and Walter Mad have shown their abilities when given opportunities, and they deserve playing time. We must also give other players a break, otherwise it's hard to expect the team to go all the way in all competitions."
"When opportunities arose during the game, or when we had a chance to turn the tide and take control, we were still not tough enough. Most games are decided in the crucial moments, and it is precisely in these crucial moments that we are not decisive enough."
In addition, Spalletti stated, "After each match, we analyze what happened on the field and discuss what aspects need to be changed. We compile a list of issues that need to be addressed and incorporate these into our weekly training plan. This helps the players learn and improve continuously, and it also allows us to see our own problems more clearly."
“We also communicate with the players and let them express their opinions. We are always willing to learn and absorb different opinions and experiences. As I said before, once you stop learning, you will only become stagnant and repeat the same mistakes. We hope to constantly find new directions and explore new possibilities.”
