Champions League – Inter Milan lost 3-4 to Club Brugge at home, with Tresoldi scoring a hat-trick.

In the second round of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League, Inter Milan hosted Club Brugge at the San Siro. They suffered a shock 3-4 defeat, marking their second consecutive loss in the Champions League.

Inter Milan launched an early attack on Club Brugge after the start of the first half. In the 5th minute, Jan Bisek broke into the attacking third and delivered a through ball, which Marcus Thuram then fired from a tight angle on the left side of the penalty area, but his shot went just wide. In the 11th minute, Hakan Çalhanoğlu played a through ball to Lautaro Martinez, whose long-range shot was caught by Jan Sommer.

In the 26th minute, Club Brugge's corner kick from the right caused chaos, and Nicolo Tresordi's shot was denied by the crossbar. In the 30th minute, Carlos Borges made a long run into the penalty area and was tripped by Calhanoglu, and the referee promptly awarded a penalty. With Tresordi converting the penalty, Club Brugge broke the deadlock.

Despite trailing by one goal, Inter Milan's attack continued. In the 33rd minute, Jon Spears' clearance error in the penalty area inadvertently created an assist, but Hakan Çalhanoğlu's long-range shot hit the post and bounced out. In the 63rd minute, Inter finally paid the price for their wasted chances: Borges, facing the onrushing Josep Martinez, controlled the ball and dribbled past him before setting up Tresoldi, who slotted it into the empty net to complete his brace.

Both teams then exchanged attacks and defenses, threatening the opponent's goal several times. In the 70th minute, Hans Wanaken, facing multiple defenders in the penalty area, scooped the ball away, and Jan Virgili's low shot hit the left post. In the 72nd minute, Wanaken played a through ball forward, and Freddy Potts broke into the penalty area and attempted a sliding shot, which was saved by Josep. In the 74th minute, Dimarco delivered a cross from the left wing, and Pio Esposito's shot inside the penalty area was caught by Sommer. Less than half a minute later, Borges' low shot inside the penalty area was blocked by Josep, but Tresoldi followed up and scored to extend the lead.

After that, the game became increasingly exciting. In the 81st minute, Petar Sučić's long-range shot forced a save from Sommer, who parried the ball, but Lautaro Martinez followed up to score his second goal. In the 87th minute, Borges delivered a precise long pass from midfield, and Romeo Vermant chipped the ball over the goalkeeper to score again. In the third minute of second-half stoppage time, Aleksandar Stankovic passed the ball to the left flank from midfield, and Ángel-Yoan Bony sprinted into the penalty area before curling a shot into the net from a tight angle. The match ended with Club Brugge defeating Inter Milan 3-4.
