The results of an MRI on Sacramento Kings center Maxime Reno's right knee are in. The imaging showed a right patellar subluxation, ruling out more serious structural damage that could have ended his season prematurely.
The Sacramento Kings have announced that the second-year center will be re-evaluated in about two weeks. The injury occurred during the Kings' preseason game against the Golden State Warriors last Saturday.
With 2 minutes and 32 seconds remaining in the second quarter, Reno collided with Golden State star Stephen Curry while setting a screen for teammate Darius Ekoff Jr. He then fell to the ground in pain and clutched his right knee before being wheeled off the court for examination.
Despite the worrying departure, things gradually became clearer after the game. Kings general manager Scott Perry told the media that he would return, and team owner Vivek Ranadive also made a special trip to the locker room to see him.
Reno then left the arena on crutches, with an ice pack on his knee. He left with a smile on his face and appeared to be in good spirits. Head coach Doug Christie expressed his concern and support for his star player after the game, stating that injuries are an unavoidable risk in professional sports.
In the less than nine minutes before leaving the game due to injury, Reno played efficiently, making all three of his field goal attempts (including one three-pointer) and all three of his free throws, contributing 10 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 block.
The 23-year-old French player was selected by the Sacramento Kings in the second round, 42nd overall, of last year's NBA draft. In his rookie season, he played 74 games for the team, averaging 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
