41-year-old veteran LeBron James officially debuted for the Philadelphia 76ers in his preseason first game with his new team. In a matchup against the Brooklyn Nets, the 76ers ultimately lost 108-114.
In this game, James played 18 minutes in the first half, contributing 10 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, and 1 steal. He started alongside Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, and rookie VJ Edgecombe. Jaylen Brown led the team with 18 points.
As the NBA's all-time leading scorer, LeBron James is about to begin his 24th season. In July of this year, he ended his eight-season stint with the Los Angeles Lakers and chose to join the Philadelphia 76ers, revealing that this would be the last contract of his NBA career.
In his previous career, James won four NBA championships with the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers, was selected to the All-Star team for 22 consecutive seasons, and won the regular season MVP four times.
In response to the opening loss, James said after the game, "We're still working on getting each other into a position where we can succeed and complement each other in the best way possible on the court. But that takes time. Tonight was a good example for us, and we can build on that."
James' core goal in joining the team is to help the 76ers break their 43-year championship drought and lift the championship trophy again.
