Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola updated the team's injury situation.

Ahead of a crucial home game against the league leaders at Anfield, Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola provided an update on the team's injury situation at the pre-match press conference.

Due to the international break, attacking linchpins Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo are both injured and confirmed to miss Sunday's match; however, there is good news regarding young defender Jeremy Jacquet and forward Federico Chiesa.

When asked about the injuries to their two star forwards, Iraola said helplessly at the press conference: "Alex Isaac and Cody Gacopo are both unavailable; they are not ready yet."

"As a club coach, you always hope that the team doctor won't call with bad news after the national team matches, but this time we were very unlucky, as both of them were injured during the international break."

Iraola further revealed the specific details of the two injuries: "Gakpo suffered a serious tackle on his ankle, and we are currently focusing on pain control while he is training separately; Isak has a minor thigh muscle strain. Neither of them appears to be out for long, and we will assess them daily, but they will not be available for the match on Sunday."

In contrast to the shortage of strikers, the team's defense and bench have received good news. 21-year-old defender Jacquet, who previously represented the French national team, has fully recovered. Iraola confirmed that his absence from the last UEFA Nations League match was purely for rest and that he will be available on Sunday.

In addition, Chiesa, who was injured in the preseason, has been recovering well with the team that stayed behind and is expected to make his comeback in this game.
