Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay has successfully undergone heart surgery and is set to return to action this weekend..

Napoli announced on their official website on Thursday that Scotland international midfielder Scott McTominay has successfully undergone heart surgery and is set to return to action this weekend following his recovery.

According to the Napoli's official statement, McTominay underwent a successful procedure last month at a hospital in Manchester to correct a minor, benign heart arrhythmia. After a month of rehabilitation, doctors have cleared him to resume training under a specialized plan supervised by the medical team.

McTominay, who played in the first two matches of the season, was substituted in the 54th minute of the game against Como on August 30—a match Napoli narrowly lost 2–1.

Subsequently, he missed the club's next three matches and was left out of the Scotland squad for their recent UEFA Nations League fixtures.

About Scott McTominay

The 29-year-old McTominay was born on December 8, 1996, in Lancaster, England. He is 1.93 meters tall and primarily plays as a defensive midfielder but can also play as an attacking midfielder. He is of Scottish descent.

McTominay joined Manchester United's youth academy at the age of five and made his first-team debut by coming on as a subsitute in the match against Arsenal in May 2017.

During his seven-year tenure with the Red Devils, he won the EFL Cup and the FA Cup once each and reached the UEFA Europa League final.

In August 2024, McTominay joined Napoli for a fee of £25.7 million.

Since joining I Partenopei, McTominay has so far made 82 appearances for Napoli across all competitions, scoring 27 goals and providing 10 assists, where he has won one Serie A title and one Supercoppa Italiana.
