Corinthians have appointed Dutch legend Clarence Seedorf as their head coach.

After suffering a dismal seven-game losing streak in the league, Brazilian powerhouse Corinthians officially announced on Sunday the appointment of 50-year-old Dutch football legend Clarence Seedorf as the new head coach of the first team.

The two sides signed a coaching contract that runs until the end of next year, marking Seedorf's return to the front line of professional football after many years since leaving the coaching bench in 2019.

After several rounds of the Brazilian Serie A, Corinthians are currently ranked 16th out of 20 teams, just one step away from the relegation zone, and their survival is in grave danger. The club just sacked former manager Fernando Dinis on Wednesday.

Despite having well-known players such as Dutch international striker Memphis Depay, the team suffered a seven-game losing streak in the league, which ultimately led the management to make the painful decision to change coaches, hoping that Seedorf could quickly stabilize the situation and lead the team to avoid relegation.

As the only legendary midfielder in world football history to win four Champions League titles with three different clubs (Ajax, Real Madrid and AC Milan), Seedorf is no stranger to Brazilian football. His professional playing career ended with Rio de Janeiro team Botafogo.

However, compared to his illustrious playing career, Seedorf's coaching career has been relatively turbulent. He previously managed AC Milan, Shenzhen FC, and Deportivo La Coruña, but each of these club stints lasted less than six months. His most recent coaching stint was seven years ago, leading the Cameroonian national team in the Africa Cup of Nations. Taking over a turbulent Corinthians, Seedorf will face an extremely tough relegation battle.
