Although Christoph Baumgartner is unable to play in this World Cup, he still traveled to the United States with the Austrian national team and actively participated in team affairs at their base in Santa Barbara, providing support to his teammates while undergoing rehabilitation.
In the final friendly match before the World Cup against Tunisia, the attacking midfielder unfortunately suffered a thigh muscle injury. He subsequently received professional treatment in Finland and, after close communication with RB Leipzig, traveled to the United States to participate in some rehabilitation training with the national team.
Christopher Baumgartner still needs crutches to help him walk. In an interview, he said, "I'm happy to be here now, even though reality isn't what I initially imagined, but I'm focused on looking forward."
“I realized I had a problem with my leg at the time, but I didn’t expect it to be so serious. When I received the diagnosis, it was a huge shock to me. But after two or three days, I started to accept reality. I told myself that what’s done is done, it’s part of sports, and now I can only move forward.”
Despite being unable to participate in this World Cup as a player, he still chose to travel to the United States with the team. Christopher Baumgartner said, "Being able to come to the United States to participate in the World Cup has always been one of my dreams. Although the result is not what I hoped for, I am still very happy to be with my teammates, friends and the national team."
"It was a very special experience to see them again and hug them. I am grateful to be a part of this team again and very grateful to the club for allowing me to come here. This is not something to be taken for granted when you are injured. I am currently receiving the best care and will do everything I can to recover as soon as possible."
