The Celtics have signed guard Pritchard to a two-year, $44.2 million contract extension.

The Boston Celtics have reached a two-year, $44.2 million fully guaranteed contract extension with guard Payton Pritchard, with options available for the 2029-30 season. His agent confirmed the news to ESPN on Tuesday.

Pritchard was a member of the Celtics' 2024 NBA championship team and was named the 2025 Sixth Man of the Year. He had an improved performance across the board last season, starting 50 games and averaging 17 points, 5.2 assists, and 3.9 rebounds, all career highs.

During the period when Jayson Tatum was sidelined with injury for most of the season, Pritchard took on more offensive initiation responsibilities, with his average number of touches per game increasing significantly from 51.8 the previous season to nearly 70, effectively supporting the team's backcourt.

Pritchard's current contract was originally set to expire in 2028, with his salary this season at $7.8 million and next season at $8.3 million. After signing the new contract, his annual salary for the 2028-29 season will exceed $21 million, and the mutual option for the 2029-30 season is worth nearly $23 million.

Pritchard, 28, was selected by the Celtics with the 26th overall pick in the first round of the 2020 NBA draft. He has been very consistent in his playing time, accumulating 241 appearances over the past three seasons, ranking among the top in the league during that period.

Pritchard is also one of only four players in franchise history to have made at least 200 three-pointers in multiple seasons. This contract extension ensures he will play for the Celtics for at least his ninth season.
