ESPN's Los Angeles-based beat reporter Ohm Youngmisuk reported on Tuesday that Los Angeles Clippers' new signing, shooting guard/small forward, Max Strus, is sidelined for an estimated one month due to a partial tear of the plantar fascia in his right foot.
According to Youngmisuk, Strus sustained the injury during the Clippers' preseason opener against the Golden State Warriors earlier this month. Team medical staff evaluated the injury and determined he would be out for about a month, potentially causing him to miss the first two weeks of the regular season.
The non-contact injury occurred five minutes into the game. Strus was cutting into the paint to receive a pass when he pulled up with a limp, struggling to put weight on his right foot.
Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue immediately called a timeout upon seeing the incident, and Strus limped slowly back to the locker room.
Strus’s injury deals another major blow to the Clippers' plans for the start of the season. Previously, forward Brandon Ingram was also sidelined for a similar duration due to a right heel injury and a partial tear of his right Achilles tendon.
Additionally, veteran guard Bradley Beal (right knee inflammation) and second-year center Yannick Konan Niederhauser (foot injury) are currently out of action.
For Strus personally, this injury marks the continuation of a multi-year nightmare.
Last year, the 30-year-old missed the first 67 games of the season, plus three additional back-to-back games, after undergoing surgery to repair a Jones fracture in his left foot.
In 2024, Strus also missed the first 27 games of the season due to a right ankle sprain. Additionally, in December 2019, while still playing for the Chicago Bulls, he suffered a torn ACL in his left knee.
The Los Angeles Clippers acquired Strus, who is currently in the final year of his contract, from the Cleveland Cavaliers in August as part of a five-team trade involving the Denver Nuggets, Washington Wizards, and Charlotte Hornets.
Last season, Strus played in only 12 NBA regular-season games, averaging 11.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2 assists, while shooting 44.3% from the field.
