Arteta revealed that Carpie and Suwemendi were injured during extra training after the match.

Following their 2-1 home win against Leeds United in the Premier League, Arsenal suffered unexpected injuries during post-match training. Ecuadorian defender Piero Incapie and Spanish midfielder Martin Zuwemendi were both injured.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta admitted at a pre-match press conference for the European competition that the situation was far from ideal. Following Saturday's match, the Arsenal coaching staff, as is customary, organized a recovery training session at the Emirates Stadium for substitutes who did not play or had limited playing time.

However, the extra training session was marred by a series of mishaps. After being injured, Carpie was carried off the pitch by goalkeeper Melier, and Zubmendi subsequently suffered an injury as well. Arteta confirmed, "We arranged extra training for players with limited playing time, but two players were injured in two unfortunate incidents. They will undergo further scans to determine their exact duration of absence."

When asked by the media whether it's possible to prevent injuries in advance, Arteta responded helplessly: "If you never train, you certainly won't get injured. But the price is that when you need them to play, they have no rhythm and can't perform."

"I've never encountered anything like this in my seven years at Arsenal. If I had a crystal ball that could predict the future, I would have told them, 'Guys, go take a soak in the Jacuzzi and see you tomorrow.'"

So far this season, 24-year-old Incapie has started in the Champions League and made three substitute appearances in the Premier League, while 27-year-old Zuweimendy has made five substitute appearances in the league. With the upcoming Champions League away match against Lille, the unexpected injuries to these two key rotation players will undoubtedly pose a new challenge to the team's defense and midfield rotation.
