Venice issued a statement on Tuesday announcing the dismissal of Giovanni Stropa as head coach.
The 58-year-old Stropa was born in Murazzano, Italy. During his playing career, he won one European Cup, three European Super Cups, and two Intercontinental Cups with AC Milan. After retiring, he transitioned to coaching, managing several Italian clubs including Südtirol, Pescara, Spezia, Foggia, Crotone, Monza, and Cremona.
In July 2025, Stropa was appointed to take over Venezia, who had just been relegated to Serie B. In his first season in charge, he led the team to a record of 26 wins, 10 draws and 5 losses, ultimately winning the Serie B title and returning to Serie A.
However, Venezia's start to the season has been extremely dismal. After suffering six consecutive defeats and conceding 16 goals, they have fallen to the bottom of the Serie A standings.
With Stropa officially dismissed, Venice is in the midst of a search for a new manager. Their potential targets include Davide Nicola, Paolo Zanetti, and Roberto D'Aversa, with Nicola being the most likely successor.
Reports also indicate that Venice and Nicola are very close to reaching an agreement. The two sides expect the contract to run until June 30, 2027, with an option for a one-year extension.
