Lille have extended the contract of 39-year-old Giroud for another year, until June 2027.

Lille announced on Monday that they have extended the contract of French striker Olivier Giroud. The new contract extends the original expiry date this summer by one season, running until June 30, 2027.

The 39-year-old Giroud came through the Grenoble youth academy and made his professional debut in Ligue 2 on March 25, 2006. He subsequently played for Istres, Tours, Montpellier, Arsenal, Chelsea, AC Milan, and Los Angeles FC, winning one Ligue 1 title, one Europa League title, four FA Cup titles, three Community Shield titles, and one U.S. Open Cup title.

Giroud also made 137 appearances for the French national team, ending his 13-year international career in July 2024. He scored 57 goals and provided 15 assists, and won the 2018 World Cup and the 2021 UEFA Nations League title with the team.

In July 2025, Giroud joined Lille on a free transfer. To date, he has made 44 appearances for Lille, scoring 1 goal and providing 11 assists.

Regarding the contract extension, Lille president Olivier Letang commented: “I am incredibly delighted and proud to continue working alongside Olivier. Since joining, in addition to his well-known and admired skills, he has brought Lille innate leadership, professionalism, and a role model attitude in everyday life. His fighting spirit and winning mentality have inspired and motivated the entire dressing room and even the club. Our unanimous decision to extend his contract quickly seemed natural, and it also reflects our expectations for Lille to rebuild its strength and ambition next season.”

Giroud himself said: "I am very happy to continue playing for Lille. I feel great and fulfilled at Lille. This season, the warm welcome from the fans, both in Lille and at stadiums throughout France, has made me feel very warm."

He added: "Most importantly, I agree with Lille's overall plan. It's a club whose values align perfectly with mine. They are hardworking and stand out through their own methods and results. I always aspire to achieve more and am determined to continue working hard this year to achieve even greater success."
