According to NBA insider Marc Stein on Friday, the New Orleans Pelicans have for the first time indicated they are willing to listen to trade offers for Trae Murphy. They had previously considered Murphy untouchable, but have now changed their tune.
Stan further pointed out that the Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers are both potential destinations for Murphy. They have long shown strong interest in Murphy, but the Pelicans are currently asking for a very high price.
According to a previous report by Jack Fisher, the Pelicans' trade for Murphy is contingent on receiving an offer that can immediately improve the team's competitiveness. They are more interested in immediate impact from this trade than simply acquiring future assets.
As the 17th overall pick in the first round of the 2021 NBA draft, Murphy has gradually developed into an indispensable forward for the Pelicans. Last season, he had a breakout season in 66 regular-season games, averaging career-highs of 21.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.5 steals per game, with a field goal percentage of 47.0% and a three-point percentage of 37.9%.
Despite Murphy's outstanding individual performance, he couldn't lead the Pelicans out of their slump. The Pelicans ultimately finished with a record of 26 wins and 56 losses, ranking 11th in the Western Conference and missing the playoffs for the second consecutive year.
