Werder Bremen has officially announced that its current third-choice goalkeeper, Marcus Korke, has renewed his contract with the club ahead of schedule and will continue to play for the team.
Sporting director Peter Niemeyer said: "Marcus Colker has been with the club for two years and has lived up to all our expectations of him, both on and off the pitch. We are delighted to continue working with him."
Goalkeeping coach Christian van der also expressed his high regard, saying, "Marcus Colker has provided a wealth of experience to the goalkeeping team in daily training. He is fully committed to every training session and takes the preparation and recovery process extremely seriously, serving as a role model for young players. He plays an important role in the goalkeeping team and helps maintain the overall quality of training."
Marcus Korke, 35, also expressed his approval of the contract extension decision. He said, "Joining Werder Bremen two years ago was the right decision, and my family and I are living a very stable life here. Therefore, I am very happy to be able to stay at the club."
Marcus Kork transferred from Rostock to Werder Bremen in the summer of 2024. To date, he has yet to make a first-team appearance. However, he has been included in the Bundesliga matchday squad 12 times over the past two seasons, serving as a reliable backup goalkeeper.
