Augsburg have officially confirmed that they have extended the contract of goalkeeper Marcel Rubik until June 30, 2029. The 22-year-old goalkeeper joined the club's youth academy in 2018. To gain more experience in high-level matches, he will join Polish powerhouse Vistula Krakow on loan for the new season, continuing to develop his skills through first-team competitions.
Over the past two seasons, Marcel Luuk has been honing his skills in the Polish league, playing on loan for GKS Tyhey and Shakhtar Zabrze. In the 2025/26 season, he helped Shakhtar Zabrze win the Polish Cup and finish as league runners-up. As the team's main goalkeeper, he made 36 appearances in all competitions, keeping 13 clean sheets.
Marcel Rubik earned his first call-up to the Polish U21 national team in October 2025 thanks to his consistent and outstanding performances, and has already made five appearances for the team. Augsburg Sporting Director Benjamin Weber said: “Marcel Rubik’s growth over the past few years has been remarkable. He helped Shakhtar Zabrze win the Polish Cup and delivered convincing performances as the first-choice goalkeeper. This contract extension fully reflects the club’s confidence in him, and we firmly believe that he can become an important part of Augsburg in the future. We also wish him continued success in Vistula, Krakow.”
Speaking about the contract extension, Marcel Rubik said, "I am very happy to have Augsburg's trust and sign a new contract. The experience I gained in the Polish Ekstraklasa last season was very important to me, and I believe that my loan spell in Vistula Krakow will continue to help me grow. In the future, I hope to earn my place in Augsburg and consistently prove myself in the Bundesliga."
