Official announcement: Lyon extends captain Corentin Tolisso's contract until 2029.

Lyon released a statement on Monday confirming that captain Corentin Tolisso has renewed his contract. The new contract extends his original term, which expires in 2027, by two years, until June 30, 2029.

According to the French newspaper L'Équipe, Tolisso accepted a pay cut during contract renewal negotiations. His original annual salary was €5.4 million, and this move will help Lyon reduce wage expenditures and alleviate financial pressure.

The 31-year-old Tolisso primarily plays as a central midfielder, but can also play in multiple positions such as defensive midfielder, attacking midfielder, and right-back. As a product of Lyon's youth academy, he has played for Lyon for seven seasons at different times during his professional career, making a total of 309 appearances, scoring 57 goals and providing 3 assists.

Aside from Lyon, Tolisso's only other club he played for was Bayern Munich. During his time in the Bundesliga, he made 118 appearances for Bayern, contributing 21 goals and 15 assists.

After completing his contract extension, Tolisso stated through official channels: "For me, continuing to play for the club I've supported since childhood is a natural choice. Wearing the Lyon jersey and serving as captain makes me incredibly proud. I love the role I play in the team, both on the pitch and in my interactions with the younger players."

“Under the coach’s guidance this season, I feel I have reached a new level. I believe the arrival of Kang Young-mi, Michael Gringer and Matthew Louis-Jean has injected new vitality into the team. The strength the team showed last season has further strengthened our belief in creating glory together. My goal remains the same: to win a trophy with Lyon and do everything in my power to help the club return to the Champions League.”
