AC Milan officially announced a one-year contract extension with Modric, until June 2027.

AC Milan released a statement on Thursday confirming the contract extension with Luka Modric. Modric will continue to wear the number 14 jersey for Milan until June 30, 2027.

Multiple sources have revealed that Modric rejected several high-salary offers from the Saudi League, MLS, and Qatar Stars League before renewing his contract. His estimated salary for next season is €3.5 million after tax, plus performance bonuses linked to Champions League qualification and individual performance.

The 40-year-old Modric came through the youth academy of Dinamo Zagreb before transferring from Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid in August 2012 for €35 million. He played 13 seasons for Real Madrid, making 597 appearances, scoring 43 goals and providing 95 assists. With the club, he won 6 Champions League titles, 4 Club World Cup titles, 4 La Liga titles, 5 UEFA Super Cup titles, 1 Intercontinental Cup title, 2 Copa del Rey titles, and 5 Spanish Super Cup titles.

In July 2025, Modric joined AC Milan as a free agent after leaving Real Madrid. To date, he has made 37 appearances for Milan, scoring 2 goals and providing 3 assists.

It's worth noting that Modric was a key member of the Croatian national team's campaign for the 2026 World Cup. He played four matches and provided one assist during the World Cup, but the Croatian team ultimately lost to Portugal and were eliminated in the round of 32.

Despite his underwhelming performance at this World Cup, Modric remains Croatia's irreplaceable spiritual leader. As the midfield core of the country's "golden generation," he led the team to consecutive World Cup runner-up finishes in 2018, 2022, and 2023.

After finalizing his contract extension, Modric addressed the fans via an official video: "I'm very happy to stay at AC Milan. From the first day I joined, you all made me feel welcome and loved."
