Tottenham Hotspur took the lead in a preseason friendly thanks to a goal from Tonali, but conceded a goal and Kevin Danso received a red card later in the game. However, Richarlison scored a crucial goal to secure a 2-1 victory over Chelsea. De Zerbi stated that the players had a very important 10 days and also called for the team to change its habits from the past two seasons.
In the 17th minute, Manol Solomon passed the ball back to Tonali, who unleashed a long-range shot to give Tottenham a 1-0 lead. In the 21st minute, Gitens chipped the ball into the box from the left, and Estewan Willian headed it in to level the score at 1-1 for Chelsea.
In the 49th minute of the second half, Kevin Danso pulled down João Pedro while vying for the ball, and was shown a red card by the referee, leaving Tottenham Hotspur with only 10 players to continue.
In stoppage time of the second half, Jamie Donley received the ball and fired a low shot that hit the post. Richarlison then followed up and scored, giving Tottenham Hotspur a 2-1 lead again.
Tottenham Hotspur ultimately defeated Chelsea 2-1 at Accor Stadium in Australia.
Tottenham Hotspur manager De Zerbi said in an interview, "There are many things that make me happy. We spent a very important 10 days together, and our training went very well during that time. I am very happy to be able to work with these players."
“I also look forward to the other players who are still in London returning to the team as soon as possible, including Bentancur, Sarr, Senesi and Kudus. I think Kudus is very close to resuming training.”
De Zerbi pointed out, "We played very well in the first half, but in the second half, a red card changed the game, which affected both us and Chelsea. For us, playing with one less player meant we couldn't play the way we usually do in training."
"For Chelsea, facing 10 players who retreated, coupled with the pitch conditions, player fitness, and fatigue in the second half, this was not an ideal situation for either side."
In addition, De Zerbi stated, "It's very important to change the team's past habits because we've developed some bad habits in terms of results over the past two seasons. So, winning games is crucial for us."
“We have to win every contest, regain possession, and perform well in every position on the field. But overall, it has been a very good 10 days.”
