Chelsea officially announced on Sunday that Barentin Barco has joined the club from Strasbourg. The two sides have signed a seven-year contract, valid until June 30, 2033.
Strasbourg, Chelsea's satellite club, has not released specific details of the deal. Multiple media outlets report that Barco's transfer fee is expected to reach £34 million. Other reports suggest his basic annual salary at Chelsea is approximately £3.12 million.
The 22-year-old Barco primarily plays as a central midfielder, but can also play as a left-back, left midfielder, and left winger. He started his career at Argentine football powerhouse Boca Juniors and will move to Europe in January 2024 via Brighton.
Due to limited playing time at Brighton, Barco was loaned out to Sevilla and Strasbourg from August 2024. His impressive performances during his loan spells led to his permanent signing by Strasbourg for €10 million in July 2025.
To date, Barco has made 58 appearances for Strasbourg, scoring 3 goals and providing 11 assists. He is also a member of the Argentine national team for the 2026 World Cup, and made a substitute appearance for about 19 minutes in Argentina's group stage match against Jordan.
