American reporter: The Kings have no intention of buying out LaVine's contract and will continue to work together in the new season.

According to Jason Anderson of the Sacramento Bee, the Sacramento Kings are not currently considering buying out Zach LaVine's contract. Unless there are major changes, the player will spend the final year of his contract with the Kings.

In June, LaVine opted to exercise his $49 million player option for the 2026/27 season instead of entering free agency early. There had been speculation that the two sides might terminate their partnership early through a buyout, but Anderson has now refuted this claim.

Anderson clearly stated in his report that the Kings hope LaVine can remain competitive and perform well in the final year of his contract. They currently have no plans to buy out LaVine's contract, even though the selection of Darius Akaff this summer clearly signals the team's shift towards a younger image.

Zach LaVine, 31, is a 6'6" (1.96m) and 91kg (4.5kg) guard who entered the NBA in 2014 as the 13th overall pick in the first round. He played for the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Chicago Bulls, appearing in 622 regular season games, averaging 20.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game, and was selected to the NBA All-Star Game twice (2021, 2022).

In February 2025, LaVine was sent to the Sacramento Kings in a three-team trade involving De'Aaron Fox. To date, he has played 71 regular season games for the Kings, averaging 20.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in 33.7 minutes per game, with a field goal percentage of 49.4% and a three-point percentage of 41.6%.
