Roma have extended captain Lorenzo Pellegrini's contract until 2027, with an option to extend for another year.

Roma released a statement on Saturday confirming the contract extension with captain Lorenzo Pellegrini. The new contract will run from this summer until June 30, 2027, with an option for a one-year extension linked to specific sporting goals.

Pellegrini was sidelined again in early April due to a hamstring problem, and only recovered in June. Roma's decision to announce his contract extension just before his return to the field fully demonstrates the club's trust and confidence in him.

According to multiple sources, Pellegrini accepted a significant pay cut in this contract extension. With the new contract officially taking effect, his salary next season will drop from €4.63 million to €2.5 million, plus bonuses.

However, Pellegrini has not yet received clearance from the medical team to play. Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini said, "When can he play? At least a month from now. He's not ready yet, so we'll talk about it later."

The 30-year-old Pellegrini primarily plays as an attacking midfielder, but can also play in other positions such as central midfielder and defensive midfielder. As a native of Rome, he joined the youth academy of his hometown club at the age of nine.

On March 22, 2015, at just 18 years old, Pellegrini made his professional debut in a Serie A match, wearing the red and yellow jersey. He then briefly played for Sassuolo before being recalled to Roma in 2017 after Roma exercised their buy-back clause.

To date, Pellegrini has made 349 appearances for Roma, scoring 62 goals and providing 63 assists, winning one European Championship title with the team. He has also made 36 appearances for the Italian national team, representing them at Euro 2024.
