David Moyes stated that the team still needs to improve its performance and must also strengthen its squad through player acquisitions.

David Moyes summarized the disappointing finale of the 2025/26 season, pointing out that Everton must strengthen their squad through signings to avoid missing out again next season. Everton suffered a 0-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, who are still hovering in the relegation zone, in their final match on Sunday afternoon.  

Everton still had a chance to qualify for European competition in the final stages of the season, but ultimately finished 13th, suffering consecutive defeats in their last two matches. After the game, David Moyes said: "I'm disappointed. Nothing has changed for me. I didn't want the team to finish the season in this position. I was hoping for a positive ending, but we didn't achieve that."  

“We have to take responsibility in some key matches, such as the loss to Sunderland and the defeat to West Ham United. Against Manchester City, we were leading 3-1, but a poor second goal caused us to lose control of the game. Then a penalty was awarded, which changed the score from 3-2 to 4-2.”  

“These key moments had a significant impact on us and I’ve kept them in mind. Overall, the players performed positively for most of the season, but the overall level is still not ideal. We need to do more and we must strengthen the squad through new signings.”  

Speaking about the away defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, David Moyes said it was regrettable that the opponent scored from a corner, but he also believed that the team showed great resilience under pressure. He said, "We understand the atmosphere of this kind of game and we know how much support the fans can provide. The Tottenham fans gave the team a powerful boost during the game."  

"The opposing players were completely out of form. We played very tenaciously as a whole, but our performance in the first half was not ideal. We made several mistakes in defending set pieces, which ultimately led to the goal we conceded. It's disappointing that both of our losses to Tottenham this season have come from corner kicks."
