Freiburg have extended the contract of 34-year-old defender Anthony Jung, with the new deal expected to run until 2027.

FC Freiburg officially announced on Thursday that they have extended the contract of 34-year-old German defender Anthony Jung. Multiple sources have confirmed that the new contract will run from this summer until June 30, 2027.

Jung played for Eintracht Frankfurt, RB Leipzig, Ingolstadt, Brøndby, and Werder Bremen during his career, making a total of 109 Bundesliga appearances. He also helped RB Leipzig gain promotion from the 3. Liga to the Bundesliga and won the Danish Superliga title and the Danish Cup with Brøndby.

In July 2025, Jung joined Freiburg on a free transfer. Last season, he mainly served as a substitute for Matthias Ginter and Philipp Lienhardt, and has made 15 appearances for Freiburg in the Bundesliga and Europa League.

Regarding the contract extension, Freiburg Sport CEO Jochen Sel explained: "Toni's first season with Freiburg has completely met our expectations. He has demonstrated a high level of professionalism from day one, delivering satisfactory performances on every pitch. In addition, his experience has played an important role in various aspects of the team off the field. We firmly believe that Toni can continue to make a great contribution to the team, and we are delighted to start his second season with him in Freiburg."

Jung himself said: "I am honored to be a part of the team and to have the opportunity to contribute to the team. In addition to football itself, the atmosphere and teamwork here are also very special. I look forward to continuing to stay in this close-knit group."
