Barcelona have officially announced the signing of Newcastle United striker Gordon, with a transfer fee potentially reaching €90 million.

FC Barcelona announced on Friday that they have signed England striker Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United. The two sides signed a five-year contract, valid until June 30, 2031.

Gordon's contract with Newcastle United was originally set to expire in 2030. His fixed transfer fee is expected to be €80 million, plus up to €10 million in performance-related bonuses. As for the triggering threshold for these bonuses, Diario Sport points out that it will be determined by two factors: firstly, Gordon's appearance rate in each season must be above 60%, and secondly, Barcelona's title-winning performance.

The 25-year-old Gordon came through Everton's youth academy and made his first-team debut in the Europa League on December 8, 2017. He joined Newcastle United in January 2023 for €45.6 million, and has since made 152 appearances, scoring 39 goals and providing 28 assists, winning the 2025 EFL Cup with the team.

Thanks to his outstanding performances at the club level, Gordon began his international career in March 2024. He has made 17 appearances for the Three Lions to date and will represent the team at the 2026 USA-Canadian Cup.

After completing the transfer, Gordon excitedly stated at the signing ceremony, "I know the deal is done. I'm very excited about everything that's happening right now."

“I am ready for new challenges. I know the club’s history very well and I know the great players who have worn the red and blue jersey. Joining the best team in the world is a dream come true for me.”

“I’ve dreamed of playing for Barcelona since I was a child. I knew there had been contact between us before… When I confirmed that the opportunity was real, I accepted without hesitation.”

“Playing for Barça is the best thing ever. Despite the huge responsibility it comes with, I’m ready. The players who have worn the red and blue jersey have given it a heavy mission. You don’t get the chance to join a club like this every day. I’m very excited.”
