Sources reveal that Amorin is a leading candidate for the AC Milan head coach position.

According to sources from ESPN, former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has become the frontrunner to take over as manager of Serie A's AC Milan.

Last month, AC Milan sacked manager Massimiliano Allegri after finishing fifth in Serie A and missing out on Champions League qualification for the new season. The club is currently actively searching for a new manager.

The 41-year-old Amorim previously had an excellent tenure at Sporting Lisbon, but after taking over Manchester United in November 2024, he experienced a difficult 14-month tenure. He led Manchester United to a 15th place finish in the Premier League and a loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, ultimately leaving in January of this year.

Following a dismal performance in the 2025-26 Serie A season, AC Milan's owner, Redoubt Capital, undertook a complete restructuring of the club. They not only dismissed Allegri, who was in his second stint as manager, but also replaced the club's CEO and sporting director.

Furthermore, sources indicate that following a series of high-level changes at AC Milan, Amorim is currently in a very advantageous position in the competition for the head coach position.

As a traditional powerhouse in Italian football, AC Milan last won the Serie A title in 2022. Since then, the team's performance has fluctuated, with league finishes of fourth, second, eighth, and fifth in the following four seasons.

Redbird Capital hopes that this complete overhaul of the management and coaching staff will allow the club to return to the ranks of championship contenders.
