After officially signing a three-year contract with Leicester City and becoming the team's manager, Russell Martin said he is ready to take on the new challenge and looks forward to leading the team to a new chapter at the King Power Stadium.
As a coach with an extensive coaching resume, 40-year-old Russell Martin has served as manager in the Premier League, various English leagues, and Scottish football. In an interview with the club, he shared his expectations for his future work and expressed his desire to build a team that fans can be proud of.
Russell Martin said: "I'm very happy to have accomplished all of this. Now what I'm most looking forward to is officially starting work, meeting everyone, and returning to the training ground to train with the players. I've had a chance to rest for a while, so when choosing my next destination, I've placed a lot of importance on my intuition, the entire communication process, and the people I come into contact with."
"This place gives me the opportunity to create something that belongs to us, to unite the team in a positive and energetic way, and to move toward a common goal. It is this sense of anticipation and excitement that ultimately made me decide to come here."
According to Russell Martin, the most important foundation for the team's future is unity and collaboration. He said, "The energy created by the fans, players, and staff is very important. Achieving our goals requires everyone's joint efforts. If we can build a team culture that everyone is willing to believe in and be proud of, then the future will be very promising."
“My job is to bring that energy into the team and to ensure that the players and staff share the same belief. It’s never about one person, but about the whole team moving toward the same goal and giving everything for it.”
“I have only one requirement for the players, staff, and myself: give it your all and give it your all. Whether it’s on the training ground, at the King Power Stadium, or in matches, we must give it our all for the club and the fans. If we can do that, we have a chance to achieve something extraordinary.”
When discussing his football philosophy, Russell Martin said, "I want the team to be aggressive both in possession and off the ball, and to dominate the game as much as possible. We need to play with passion and attacking spirit, maintain our hunger for goals, and also show intensity on the defensive end. Most importantly, it's about team spirit, being a team that's willing to fight for each other and for the fans."
"First, we need to become a highly competitive team, working harder than any opponent and putting in more sweat for our goals, before gradually refining the tactical details. Until then, we must become a truly united whole, fighting together, running together, and working together. I hope the fans can feel that, and then we can add more exciting content to the team."
Speaking about the upcoming preseason preparations, Russell Martin said, "We'll get to work right away and tell the players very clearly what we're looking for, what style the team should play, what goals we should pursue, and what aspects are most critical to us."
"Whether on or off the field, we need to establish clear and strict standards and create a positive and demanding training base culture. We must take our work seriously, care about the people around us, and then prepare for the season opener through high-intensity training, showing the true face of the team to the outside world. I love coaching and I love helping players grow; this has always been my greatest passion."
“I am 40 years old this year, which is still considered a young coach, but I have also accumulated a lot of coaching experience. I have learned a lot in different clubs, different environments and different challenges, and this challenge is also unique.”
“I have great respect for Leicester City and have studied its history and culture carefully. Many people who have worked or played here have told me the same thing: it has excellent people and a fantastic club environment.”
"If we can channel our energy in the right direction and turn around the recent overall atmosphere, then we have the opportunity to do something special. The past is the past, Leicester City has proven that it can achieve great things, and we hope to write a new story."
"I'm returning with great enthusiasm. Over the past few months, I've spent time scouting in several European countries, watching matches, studying tactics, and communicating with many coaches, which has been very rewarding. I feel I'm in a very good position in my career right now and hope to build a team that makes fans feel a sense of belonging and pride, while also consistently achieving victories. Our goal is clear: to win, and to win in the right way."
