RB Leipzig officially announced on Wednesday the immediate dismissal of Ole Werner as head coach. With Werner's departure, his two assistant coaches, Tom Chijon and Patrick Coleman, will also leave their posts.
Timo Werner previously coached Holstein Kiel and Werder Bremen, and in July 2025, he succeeded Marco Rose as head coach of RB Leipzig. In his first season with Leipzig, he led the team to a record of 23 wins, 5 draws, and 10 losses, ultimately securing third place in the Bundesliga and qualifying for the Champions League group stage.
Regarding Werner's departure, RB Leipzig's sporting director, Marcel Schäfer, explained: "In recent days, we have conducted a comprehensive review and evaluation of last season. On Tuesday evening, we decided that a change of manager was necessary. We sincerely thank Ole, Tom, and Patrick for their hard work and dedication at RB Leipzig. They played a key role in the team's successful rebuilding and qualification for the Champions League. Nevertheless, we believe that the challenges ahead require new ideas and different approaches. We wish Ole, Tom, and Patrick all the best for the future."
Jürgen Klopp, Red Bull's global head of football and currently a World Cup commentator for Magenta TV, also shared his views on the managerial change: "As a global team, we play an advisory role. We were involved in the decision-making process and analyzed last season. Ole Werner performed exceptionally well. We successfully qualified for the Champions League. At the same time, we must also look to the future. When we considered possible future directions, they decided to make adjustments."
Multiple sources have confirmed that Timo Werner's successor will be Argentine legend and Real Mallorca manager Martín Demichelis. RB Leipzig is expected to pay Demichelis approximately €2.5 million in release clause, and the two sides are likely to sign a two-year contract.
