World Cup – Yamar scores and Oyarzabal braces as Spain thrashes Saudi Arabia 4-0.

In the second round of Group H matches at the 2026 World Cup, Spain faced Saudi Arabia at Mercedes-Benz Arena in Atlanta, USA. They ultimately won 4-0 and currently sit atop the group with 4 points from 1 win and 1 draw.

In the match against Saudi Arabia, Spain dominated from the start. In the 10th minute, they broke through Saudi Arabia's defense: Mikel Oyarzabal broke through on the left and delivered a cross, which Ramin Yamal finished off to score his first World Cup goal.

After taking the lead, Spain played with increasing ease. In the 12th minute, Yamal's cross-shot from the edge of the box was saved by the onrushing Mohamed Alovaís, and Pedri's follow-up shot went over the crossbar. In the 16th minute, Oyarzabal cut inside from the left and unleashed a shot, which Alovaís made a diving save. In the 20th minute, Abdullah Amri and Firas Albilaka both made clearance errors, and Emeric Laporte capitalized on the opportunity, heading the ball to Oyarzabal who scored with the outside of his foot. In the 23rd minute, Dani Olmo headed the ball across the box, and Oyarzabal slotted it home. Thanks to Oyarzabal's brace, Spain established a commanding 3-0 lead before halftime.

The second half began with both sides switching ends. Just three minutes in, Spain extended their lead due to an opponent's mistake: Marc Cucurella's volley was brilliantly blocked by Alovais, but the ball then deflected off Hassan Tambati and into the net. With Tambati's own goal, Spain now led 4-0.

After that, Spain created several more scoring opportunities. In the 52nd minute, Pau Cubas delivered a precise long pass from midfield, and Pedro Polo's low shot was saved by Alovais. Ferran Torres then headed the rebound, but Alovais caught it. In the 64th minute, Mikel Merino delivered a low cross from the right wing at a 45-degree angle, and Torres' chip shot over Alovais went just wide. In the first minute of stoppage time in the second half, Polo delivered a diagonal pass from the right side of the penalty area, and Ferran's goal was ruled offside. At the final whistle, Spain secured a comfortable 4-0 victory and all three points.
