RB Leipzig has announced Martin Demichelis as the team's new head coach, signing a contract until June 30, 2028.

RB Leipzig have confirmed that Martin Demichelis will take over as first-team head coach on a contract until June 30, 2028. The 45-year-old Argentine coach previously managed La Liga club Real Mallorca.  

RB Leipzig's sporting director, Marcel Schäfer, said: "Martin Demichelis has accumulated top-level playing and coaching experience in Europe, South America, and North America, and his international background is highly consistent with RB Leipzig's global development strategy. He has a clear tactical approach, emphasizes high-intensity play, and possesses excellent professionalism. We believe he can bring new momentum to the team and play a key role in the club's continued progress."  

Upon assuming his new role, Martin Demichelis stated, "I greatly appreciate the communication with the club and its sporting plans. RB Leipzig is an ambitious club with a clear identity and a high-caliber squad; they are always striving for continuous improvement, which is exactly the challenge I hope to face."

Martín Demichelis began his coaching career at Malaga, where he served as an assistant coach and also worked in Bayern Munich's youth academy. In the 2022/23 season, he returned to Argentina to coach his former club River Plate, leading them to the Argentine league title and two domestic cup honors in his first season.  

After completing 87 managerial duties, he moved to Mexico to coach Monterrey, successfully leading the team to the league finals in 43 matches. Subsequently, Martín Demichelis took charge of Real Mallorca, completing his tenure in the latter part of the season. During this time, the team defeated Real Madrid, achieving five victories and extending their unbeaten run to eight games, but ultimately failed to avoid relegation due to a worse head-to-head record.  

As a professional player, Martin Demichelis spent his prime primarily at Bayern Munich, making 259 appearances and winning four Bundesliga titles and four German Cups with the team. He also played for River Plate, Malaga, Atlético Madrid, Espanyol, and Manchester City, winning the Premier League title with Manchester City. For the national team, he made 51 appearances for Argentina, participating in the 2014 World Cup where they finished as runners-up, starting in the final against Germany.
