The 10-man United States defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 in the Round of 32s of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in United States, Canada and Mexico at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium on Thursday, advancing to the Round of 16s for the first time in their history.

In the first half, Alajbegović's bold direct shot from a corner was saved, McKennie's cross nearly led to a goal, Balogun's goal initially was disallowed, but he scored again before halftime, though his subsequent close-range effort hit the crossbar. In the second half, Balogun was sent off for a malicious foul, and Pulisic's goal from a close-range follow-up shot was disallowed. In a crucial moment, Tillman scored directly from a free kick. Ultimately, the 10-man United States defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0. In the next round, the United States will host Belgium in Seattle.

First Half

In the 9th minute, Edin Džeko passes horizontally from the attacking third. Samed Baždar quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, took a right-footed long shot from the right side of the box, but his shot was saved by Matt Freese. 

1 minute later, Bosnia and Herzegovina earned a corner kick opportunity. Kerim Alajbegović took the corner by taking a direct right-footed shot from a difficult angle, but his shot was brilliantly saved off the line by Freese! Bosnia and Herzegovina's bold attempt nearly resulted in a goal!

In the 14th minute, Antonee Robbinson cuts the ball back into the box from the byline at the right wing. Folarin Balogun quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, volleyed with his right foot from the right side of the box, but his shot went wide of the right side of the post.

3 minutes later, Weston McKennie crossed from the byline at the right side of the box. His pass was parried by Nikola Vassilj and then headed slightly over the crossbar by Robinson! The United States almost successfully scored!

In the 31st minute, the United States launched a quick counter-attack. McKennie passes horizontally from the right wing. Balogun quickly followed up, got the ball and cuts into the center of the box before volleying the ball into the bottom right corner of the net with his left foot. However, the linesman immediately raised his flag for offside, and the goal was disallowed!

14 minutes later, Malik Tillman played an overhead pass from the attacking third. After beating the offside trap, Balogun quickly followed up, got the ball and took a few steps before volleying the ball into the empty net with his left foot past the outrushing Vassilj to help the United States break the deadlock first to take a 1-0 lead! This was the Monaco striker's 12th goal for the USMNT across all competitions!

In the 6th minute of first-half stoppage time, Tyler Adams played an overhead diagonal pass into the box from the attacking third. Sergiño Dest headed the ball across. Balogun quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, took a right-footed shot from a very close distance in the box, but his shot unfortunately struck the crossbar and bounced off! The US missed a golden opportunity to quickly extend their lead!

At halftime, the United States temporarily enter the break leading Bosnia and Herzegovina by 1-0.

Second Half

Both teams switched sides as the match continued. In the 64th minute, Balogun maliciously tackled and brought down Tarik Muharemović on the left wing. The referee immediately blew his whistle, and the VAR assistant referee intervened. After reviewing the VAR, the referee confirmed that Balogun had committed a malicious foul and issued him a red card, sending him off! The USMNT are forced to finish the match with 10 men!

2 minutes later, Ermin Mahmić crossed into the box from the right wing. His pass was initially blocked and cleared off not far away by Tim Ream. Upon picking up the loose ball, Ermedin Demirović took a right-footed long shot from the center of the box, but his shot was saved by Freese.

In the 78th minute, Tillman horizontally from the center of the box. Christian Pulisic quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, slotted the ball into the bottom right corner of the net from a very close distance in the box with his right foot. However, the linesman immediately raised his flag for offside, and the goal was disallowed!

2 minutes later, Stjepan Radeljić received a yellow card for maliciously pulling Dest's shirt in his own back half!

In the 82nd minute, the United States won a deadly free kick opportunity. Malik Tillman took the free kick from outside the penalty area by taking a right-footed direct shot that flew straight into the bottom left corner of the net, leaving Vassilj helpless. The United States extended their lead to 2-0!

In the 7th minute of injury time, Amar Dedić passes horizontally from the left wing. Ermin Mahmić stopped the ball and adjusted his angle before taking a right-footed long shot from outside the penalty area, but his shot went just slightly wide of the bottom right corner of the post.

1 minute later, Mahmić dribbled to just outside of the penalty area before taking a right-footed long shot, but his shot just slightly wide of the bottom left corner of the post.

When the final whistle is blown, 10-man United States defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina by 2-0.
