Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement with Newcastle United over the transfer of Sandro Tonali..

Sky Sports' renowned Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, exclusively reported on Thursday via his official X (Twitter) account that Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement with Newcastle United over the transfer of Italy international defensive midfielder Sandro Tonali.

According to Romano, Spurs have agreed to pay Newcastle a record-breaking £100 million transfer fee to sign Tonali, including an initial fee of £92.5 million plus £7.5 million in performance-related bonuses, making him the most expensive midfielder in Italy and even world football.

Furthermore, Romano revealed that since he broke the news on June 15th that Spurs were interested in joining Tonali's transfer battle, the player had already been determined to join the club.

Despite widespread speculation that Tonali has already determined to join Arsenal, the Gunners never actually submitted any formal offer.

The same situation applies to Manchester City.

Tonali decided to join Spurs after holding talks with manager Roberto De Zerbi in mid-June.

It's worth mentioning that when this transfer is completed, Tottenham Hotspur's transfer spending this summer so far has reached £234 million. This will be Spurs' highest spending in a transfer window in its club's history.

Tonali will also become the second consecutive new Spurs player to snub a move to Manchester United.

Recently, former West Ham United Portugal international midfielder Matheus Fernandes also chose to snub the Red Devils and join Spurs for £85 million.

About Sandro Tonali

Tonali previously played for Piacenza, Brescia, and AC Milan, winning one Serie B title and one Serie A title.

In July 2023, Tonali joined Newcastle United for €70 million, breaking the transfer fee record and becoming the most expensive Italian player in the world.

Since joining the Magpies, Tonali has made 110 appearances for the new Premier League giants in all competitions, scoring 10 goals and providing 10 assists, as well as winning the Carabao Cup once with the club.
