Michael Kayor has signed a contract extension with Brentford, with the new contract running until the summer of 2032.

Brentford Football Club has officially announced the contract extension with 21-year-old right-back Michael Kayord. The two sides signed a new contract valid until the summer of 2032, with the club having an option to extend for another year. Kayord impressed in the 2025/26 season, earning a nomination for the Premier League Young Player of the Season. Since joining Brentford on loan from Fiorentina in January 2025 and subsequently making it permanent, he has made 56 appearances for Brentford in all competitions.

Michael Kayorde developed through Juventus' youth academy, where he spent seven years training until leaving the club in 2018. He then moved to Gózano, a team in Italy's fourth tier. In the 2020/21 season, the then 16-year-old Kayorde contributed 2 goals and 2 assists in 34 appearances, helping the team achieve promotion to Serie C.

Thanks to his outstanding performance at Gozano, Michael Kayord caught the eye of Fiorentina and joined the Viola, starting his new journey with the youth team. In 2023, he made his Serie A debut in a 4-1 away victory against Genoa and gradually established himself as a regular starter in the first team in the second half of the season.

During his time at Fiorentina, Michael Kayord made 49 appearances for the club, helping them reach the 2024 UEFA Champions League final. In January 2025, he joined Brentford on loan, making 12 appearances in his first half-season there. The Italian U21 international also made his Brentford debut as a substitute in a match against Tottenham Hotspur.

In the final six Premier League matches of the 2024/25 season, Michael Kayord started all six. After completing his permanent transfer in the summer of 2025, he quickly became a regular starter in the team's defense and continued to contribute consistent performances in the 2025/26 season, helping Brentford ultimately finish ninth in the Premier League. In the 2025/26 season, Michael Kayord only missed one Premier League match, demonstrating exceptional consistency. Currently, he is just one win away from reaching his 50th Premier League appearance milestone.

In March 2026, Michael Kayord scored his first official goal for Brentford with a header in a home match against Wolverhampton Wanderers. In addition, he made seven appearances in the FA Cup and League Cup during the 2025/26 season, contributing to the team's success across multiple competitions.

Brentford manager Keith Andrews said: "Michael Kayor's performance last season was very satisfying. He fully demonstrated the qualities we want in the team. He has made significant progress over the past year and has approached training and matches with a positive attitude every day. He is loved by everyone, both as a teammate and as a player. We are delighted that he has chosen to stay at Brentford, and this new contract is the best affirmation of his hard work and performance."

Speaking about the contract extension, Michael Kayord said, "I'm really happy to stay here. This club is like a warm family to me, and I hope to continue this journey. I have built a great relationship with my teammates, coaching staff, and all the staff, which makes me eager to come to the training ground every day to train with everyone and enjoy football."

“Everything has been going very well since I arrived here. I feel like I’ve been in Brentford for 10 years, not just a short time. I’ve grown a lot both on and off the pitch, which means a lot to me.”
