Crystal Palace officially confirmed on Thursday that Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza has joined the club on a free transfer. The two sides signed a four-year contract, valid until June 30, 2030.
The 27-year-old Mingueza came through the La Masia youth academy and made 66 appearances for Barcelona early in his career. In July 2022, he joined Celta Vigo on a free transfer.
To date, Mingueza has made 147 appearances for Celta Vigo, scoring 7 goals and providing 15 assists. His market value has also climbed to its current level of €18 million, making him a potential transfer target for several top European clubs, including Juventus, Como, Atalanta, Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Sunderland.
After the signing was completed, Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish commented: "We are delighted to have Oscar join us. He is a player with both talent and character."
"His professional resume speaks for itself. He has extensive experience competing at the top level, both at the club and national team levels."
Parish concluded, "We believe he would be a perfect fit for Crystal Palace."
Mingueza himself is also excited about the transfer: "I am very excited to be here. It is an honor to join Crystal Palace, and I can't wait to see everyone at Selhurst Park."
In an interview with the official radio station, he added: "London is a wonderful place for me and my family. I'm very excited. I can't wait to start training and playing."
“I think this is an exciting moment. I joined Crystal Palace because of the new manager and his coaching style, plus the club’s excellent performance in recent years.”
"I hope we can keep going and strive to win more trophies."
