Morgan Rodgers believes that every player on the team has the ability to change the course of a game.

Aston Villa player Morgan Rodgers spoke after the match about his performance as a substitute. His outstanding play revitalized England and helped the team advance to the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup.  

The 23-year-old attacking player came on as a substitute two minutes before the end of regular time in the match in Miami on Saturday night, replacing Aston Villa teammate Ezri Konsa. In extra time, Morgan Rodgers created a crucial threat; after his shot was saved by the opposing goalkeeper, Jude Bellingham quickly followed up to score the rebound, helping England ultimately come from behind to defeat Norway 2-1.  

Morgan Rodgers spoke about England's strong squad depth, believing that every member of the team has the ability to change the game. He particularly noted that substitutes, in particular, often influence the outcome of matches. After the game, he stated, "Whoever gets a chance to play has the ability to make a difference, and that's our team's most unique strength."  

“Looking at the world, there aren’t many teams that have such a rich pool of substitutes. Some players may not have had the opportunity to play, but if they joined most other teams, they would be fully capable of becoming starters. This is precisely what makes our squad so strong.”  

"The most important thing is to be ready to play at any time, depending on the needs of the game and the coach's arrangements. When the opportunity comes, we will devote all our energy to helping the team and changing the course of the game as much as possible."  

Although England have already advanced to the World Cup semi-finals, Morgan Rodgers stated that the team still needs to improve their performance to achieve their goals in the final stages of the tournament. Manager Thomas Tuchel previously pointed out that England did not perform at their best against Norway, and Rodgers agrees, believing the team has room for further improvement.  

When discussing Thomas Tuchel's assessment of the team's performance, Morgan Rogers frankly stated: "We must improve further. Today's performance was far from our true level and we didn't show our best form. Now that we've reached the World Cup semi-finals, if we hope to continue and achieve our goals, we must deliver an even better performance than in this match."
