Sources say the Lakers have signed Thybulle to a one-year, $3.3 million contract.

According to sources, free agent forward Matisse Thybulle has agreed to a one-year, $3.3 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Thybulle, a two-time All-Defensive Team selection, communicated with head coach J.J. Redick and player Luka Doncic during free agency to clarify his role in the team, and ultimately chose to join the Lakers to strengthen the team's wing defense.

Over the past two seasons, Thybulle has played 45 games with a 41.8% three-point shooting percentage. Last season, among players who played at least 20 games, he led the league in both steals and pass disruptions per 36 minutes.

Thybulle, who is about to enter his eighth season, considered staying with the team, but the Portland Trail Blazers offered mostly non-guaranteed contracts during free agency, showing a lack of sincerity. The Lakers attempted a sign-and-trade with the Blazers to allow Thybulle to receive a higher salary, but the two sides failed to reach an agreement.

With this signing, the Lakers now have 16 players with guaranteed contracts, and the team needs to streamline its roster through trades before the regular season opens in October. Furthermore, the Lakers had previously pursued free agent Jonathan Cuminga aggressively, but negotiations failed to make substantial progress.
