Liverpool's new manager, Andoni Iraola, said during the team's pre-season tour to Chicago that he is determined to keep two of the team's key players in his first season.
The two key players are Alexis Mac Allister and Alisson, and Iraola also revealed that the team must strengthen its defense in the transfer market.
Despite previous rumors linking McAllister to Real Madrid, Iraola has made it clear that the Argentine midfielder remains in the team's plans. In an interview, Iraola stated, "McAllister has been one of the best players the club has had in recent years."
“He performed exceptionally well at the World Cup, and it’s normal for other clubs to want our best player. But I hope to retain our excellent players, and I’d rather sign new players than lose our current key players.”
Regarding goalkeeper Alisson, who has been linked with a move to Juventus, Iraola confirmed that the Brazilian will remain with the team and emphasized the importance of veteran players. He stated, "I am very satisfied with the current depth of our goalkeeping options."
“Alisson is a role model in the locker room and has a wealth of experience. He can be a great help in integrating new players and young people into the team. We need veterans like Van Dijk, Alisson and Gomez who have been with the team for a long time to lead the way.”
Furthermore, Iraola admitted that the team's defense is currently very weak. With Conor Bradley and Hugo Ekittik both suffering serious injuries and needing several months of recovery, Liverpool will accelerate their integration during the preseason and actively evaluate the transfer market to bolster their squad for the new season.
