Official: Napoli and Vergara extend contract until June 2031

Napoli released a statement on Saturday confirming the contract extension with Antonio Vergara. The new contract will run from 2030 to June 30, 2031, with an option to extend for another three years.

According to multiple media reports, Vergara's annual salary will increase significantly from 400,000 euros to 2 million euros after the contract extension.

The 23-year-old Vergara primarily plays as an attacking midfielder, but can also play as a right winger, right winger, and defensive midfielder. He has been developing in Napoli's youth academy since he was 11 years old, and made his professional debut for the first team on August 23, 2025, in the first round of Serie A against Sassuolo.

To date, Vergara has made 19 appearances for Napoli, scoring 3 goals and providing 4 assists. Despite missing more than 60 days last season due to a partial plantar fascia tear, he remains highly trusted by manager Massimiliano Allegri.

Regarding the contract extension, Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo said at a press conference: "I am very satisfied with Antonio. He went through some difficulties at the beginning, but later proved his worth in key moments. He works very hard, and that hasn't changed even after he became famous. He must continue to improve himself and cannot be complacent. He has the right mindset and can walk his own path well."

“I’m very happy that he renewed his contract. He’s a native of Napoli and a Napoli fan. Players like him are very rare.”

When asked if Vergara would take over as captain in the future, Di Lorenzo laughed and said, "It's too early to draw conclusions, after all, I'm still here. However, I really look forward to seeing a youth academy player wear the captain's armband in the future."
