Ready to start again, Colville: My experience with injuries has made me a better version of myself.

Chelsea, nicknamed the "Blues," are currently fully engaged in pre-season training and will face Western Sydney Wanderers in a friendly match. Colwell stated that he is ready to start afresh, adding that past injuries have made him a better person.

Colwell suffered a serious knee injury during preseason training last August, and as a result, he only played in 3 Premier League matches in the 2025/26 season.

Chelsea defender 23-year-old Colwell said, "I'm ready. Being able to get back into the game at the end of last season, even if it was just for a short time, gave me a lot of motivation and helped me come back to this year's preseason with a stronger fighting spirit. I'm ready to start again and keep moving forward."

“That injury was an extremely difficult time. It happened on the first day of preseason training, and it was hard for me to accept. But I’ve always believed that everything happens for a reason. So I can only face it calmly and do my best to complete my recovery.”

Colville noted, "Fortunately, I'm back, and I feel stronger both mentally and physically than before. The experience of injury has made me a better version of myself."

In addition, Chelsea appointed legendary Xabi Alonso as their new manager in May.

Speaking about new head coach Xabi Alonso, Colville said, "It's an honor to play under a coach like Xabi Alonso. So far, he's been really outstanding, and the training has been very fun. He wants us to control the ball boldly and organize our attacks as a team, which is exactly what I like to do as a defender."

“He encouraged us to be bold and express ourselves, to pass the ball freely, and to bring out our technical strengths. This suits me very well because I like to initiate attacks from the back and I also like to showcase my passing ability. Hopefully, we can demonstrate these abilities in tomorrow's game, and we are all very much looking forward to the start of the new season.”
