Three years ago, Mancini resigned as head coach of the Italian national team to coach the Saudi Arabian national team, a decision that sparked huge controversy.

At the press conference, Mancini admitted that the poor communication with the Football Association at the time was entirely his fault, and that leaving the post felt like losing the love of his life. He also expressed his deep regret for everything that had happened in the past three years.

This change in coaching stemmed from Italy's defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the World Cup qualifying play-offs, marking their historic third consecutive failure to qualify for the World Cup finals. This directly led to the resignations of then-coach Gennaro Gattuso and Football Federation president Gabriel Gravina.

After Ancelotti and Guardiola both declined the head coach position, and Pirlo withdrew from the candidate list due to sponsorship controversies, Mancini, who led the team to win the 2021 European Championship, finally took over the team.

Facing criticism and dissatisfaction from some fans, Mancini expressed his understanding and hoped to win back forgiveness through excellent performances. His comeback debut will be against Belgium at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on September 25.
