Manchester City centre-back John Stones has joined Inter Milan on a free transfer, on a two-year contract.

Inter Milan announced on Thursday that Manchester City centre-back John Stones has joined the club on a free transfer. The two sides signed a two-year contract, valid until June 30, 2028.

Multiple sources have confirmed that Stones' annual salary at Inter Milan is 4 million euros after tax.

The 32-year-old Stones came through the Barnsley youth academy and made his first-team debut in the Championship on March 17, 2012. He then played for Everton and Manchester City, making 390 appearances, scoring 20 goals and providing 9 assists, helping the teams win one Champions League title, one Club World Cup title, six Premier League titles, one UEFA Super Cup title, three FA Cup titles, five League Cup titles, and two Community Shield titles.

Thanks to his consistent performances at the club level, Stones has represented England on the international stage since May 2014. He has made 94 appearances for the Three Lions to date, winning two European Championship runner-up titles and a third-place finish at the 2026 World Cup.

This move to Inter Milan marks Stones' first stint playing in a league outside of England. After signing the contract, Stones said, "I feel incredibly happy and proud, and I'm also very excited to begin a new chapter and embark on a new journey. I can't imagine a more suitable starting point than Milan."

"For me, joining Inter Milan is an extremely important turning point in my life and career. It has always been my dream. When the opportunity came, I discussed it with my family and we decided to come here without any hesitation."

“I’ve longed to visit Milan for a long time, but I’ve never had the chance to experience it firsthand. What excites us the most is this: we can’t wait to explore the city, experience its culture, and meet its people.”

Finally, Stones, an Inter Milan fan, offered his message: "I can't wait to see you all, to get to know you as much as possible, to appear before you, and to create some wonderful memories together. I firmly believe we can do it. I want to thank you all in advance for your support before we meet, because I know you are passionate about Milan and the players. I assure you, I will proudly wear the blue and black jersey and give my all for the club and my teammates."
