U.S. head coach Mauricio Pochettino has signed a contract extension, extending his term until 2030.

The U.S. Soccer Federation announced on Monday that it has renewed the contract of national team head coach Mauricio Pochettino. According to the agreement, the Argentine coach will remain in his position until the end of the 2030 World Cup.

The official statement also confirmed that Pochettino and his coaching team will be deeply involved in the development of the US soccer system after the contract extension. They will provide consultation and support to the US Soccer Federation, covering national team youth development, youth soccer, coach training, professional league cooperation, and other technical areas.

Regarding Pochettino's continued tenure, J.T. Batson, CEO and Secretary of the U.S. Soccer Federation, commented: "Mauricio and his team are full of confidence in the future of American soccer. Our new project will build on the existing achievements of the U.S. national team and continue to advance with the overall upward momentum of American soccer."

“We are well aware that achieving our goals remains a long and challenging task—including enabling the United States to compete for the World Cup title and making soccer the most participated sport in communities across the country. I am very pleased that Mauricio and his team are willing to work with all of us to turn our ambitions into reality.”

The 54-year-old Pochettino has managed Espanyol, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea. During his tenure, he led Paris Saint-Germain to one Ligue 1 title, one French Cup, and one French Super Cup. He also led Tottenham to the 2018/19 Champions League final, but they ultimately lost to Liverpool and finished as runners-up.

In September 2024, Pochettino officially succeeded Greg Berhart as head coach of the U.S. national team. To date, he has led the team to a record of 18 wins, 1 draw, and 12 losses, and has reached the final of the 2025 Gold Cup and the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.

After renewing his contract, Pochettino said, "Our partnership with the U.S. Soccer Federation over the past two years has further convinced us that the U.S. national team has tremendous room for improvement. The enthusiasm shown by the fans during the World Cup has further strengthened our confidence in the future of American soccer."

We’ve seen the impact of trust in the national team’s growth, competition, and performance at the World Cup.
