After leading his team to a 2-1 comeback victory against Norway at Cardiff City Stadium in the UEFA Nations League group stage, Wales manager Craig Bellamy publicly addressed the public pressure he had faced in a lengthy post-match press conference.
This victory ended Wales' previous six-game winless streak, but amidst the joy, Bellamy admitted that the criticism and abuse he had endured over the past few months had made it a "very difficult" time.
Bellamy stated that since the World Cup playoff defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina in March, the criticism against him has never stopped, especially after he was contacted by Burnley in June to negotiate a coaching position, which further exacerbated the negative emotions of some fans.
However, what bothers Bellamy the most is that these comments have affected his family. "It doesn't matter to me personally, but I have a wife and children who can see these things," Bellamy said.
In response to the public opinion environment, Bellamy appealed for greater tolerance: "We are a small country, why can't we support each other and take better care of one another?"
"I'm not saying that no one can be criticized, but I feel that criticism comes too quickly and too casually these days. We love football, but that doesn't mean we can vent our frustrations without restraint."
Bellamy emphasized that he deeply loves his job and even turned down high-paying offers from other companies. He is fully committed to the national team and will not let outside noise spoil the team's joy of winning.
