May 28th - According to ESPN , the NBA has issued a warning to San Antonio Spurs player Victor Wimbledonama for failing to fulfill his media obligations. The reason given was his failure to give a post-game interview following the team's loss in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals .
Following the Spurs' 114-127 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, a team spokesperson stated that Viktor Wimbledon would not be giving interviews after the game. This announcement came approximately one hour after Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson completed the team's post-game press conference.
In this game, Wambano scored 20 points, but only made 4 of 15 shots , a poor performance. He only grabbed one rebound, and the Thunder shot 49% when he was on the court , the highest field goal percentage against him in the playoffs.
The NBA stated that the league has previously fined players for violating media rules; for example, in 2023 , Jimmy Butler and Dillon Brooks were both fined $ 25,000 for not giving interviews .
It's worth mentioning that Viktor Amar'e won the Magic Johnson Award this season, presented by the Professional Basketball Reporter Association. This award recognizes players who excel in both on-court performance and media relations.
