His subsequent shot was saved by the goalkeeper, but the ball fell to Jean-Philippe Mateta, who quickly seized the opportunity to score and give his team a crucial lead.  

After lifting the championship trophy, Adam Walton gave a brief interview, discussing his decision at the time. He said, "No, I wasn't preparing to shoot at that moment; I was prioritizing finding passing lanes. Actually, I don't usually shoot that many times, and in this game, I only had that one chance."

But Adam Walton later stated that he had never really considered missing the European final. He said, "I've been icing my ankle for the past few days, mainly to reduce the swelling, and I've also taken some painkillers. So, it's been going relatively well. To be honest, I can't even shoot properly; my ankle is very uncomfortable, but I can't possibly miss a cup final just because of a little swelling."
