Lens have officially signed Saud Abdulhamid on a contract that runs until 2029.

Saud Abdulhamid officially became part of Lens' long-term plans after joining them on loan from Roma with an option to buy in the 2025/26 season. He played a key role in the team's victory in the French Cup and their qualification for the Champions League. The wing-back has now signed a new contract with the club, remaining until 2029.

Before joining Lens, 26-year-old Saud Abdulhamid had accumulated extensive experience in the Saudi professional leagues, making a total of 204 appearances for Al-Hilal and Jeddah, and also gaining valuable European experience at Roma. In July 2025, he joined Lens on loan, officially beginning his adaptation to the pace of Ligue 1. A modern full-back/wing-back, he is known for his powerful attacking runs and involvement, and has gradually established himself in Pierre Sager's tactical system.

Saud Abdulhamid made history, becoming the first Saudi player to play in Ligue 1 (McDonald's League). He made his league debut against Lyon and then provided an assist in the subsequent match against Brest, showcasing his attacking potential. In 10 appearances in the first half of the season, he was involved in key matches against Lille, Marseille, and Lorient.

As the season progressed, he gradually developed into an important member of the team's system. In the second half of the season, he made 14 appearances and contributed two assists in the 5-0 victory against Paris FC. He then maintained a consistent performance in 11 consecutive league matches, scoring his first Ligue 1 goal against Metz. Throughout the 2025/26 season, he made 25 Ligue 1 appearances and helped the team secure a historic Champions League qualification.

Beyond the league, he also played a crucial role in the French Cup. He started in all five matches that led the team to the title, providing two assists in the semi-final against Toulouse, helping the team advance to the final with a 4-1 victory. Ultimately, he helped the team win the championship trophy 3-1 at the Stade de France against Nice.

Due to his outstanding performance during the season, Lens decided to activate the buy-out clause, officially signing Saud Abdulhamid until 2029. Club sporting director Jean-Louis Lecce stated: “Continuing to work with him was a very natural decision; he fits our tactical system perfectly. His speed and crossing ability are outstanding, and he has already contributed 8 assists this season. At the same time, he has brought a positive impact to the team, and this partnership has been very successful for both sides.”
