Hamburg announced on their official website on Friday that they have triggered buyout clause of on-loan Rennes Denmark international attacking midfielder Albert Grønbæk.
According to Hamburg's official statement, Grønbæk has signed on a long-term four-year deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2030.
After completing his transfer, Grønbæk, who was interviewed by the Hamburg official website again, said: "I am very happy to stay at Hamburg. It feels fantastic. This is exactly what I've always dreamed of, everything is perfect."
"The past six months at Hamburg have been very successful. I will always be grateful to my teammates, coaching staff, and backstage personnel for their care. Now, we are eager to establish ourselves in the Bundesliga. I am full of expectations and confidence for the future."
About Albert Grønbæk
The 25 year-old Grønbæk, was born on May 23, 2001 in Risskov, Denmark. He is 1.76 meters tall and primarily plays as an attacking midfielder. He can also play as a left winger.
Grønbæk joined the youth academy of his hometown club Vejlby-Risskov since he was a child. In 2015, he moved to the Aarhus youth academy and completed his Aarhus first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in July 2020.
In August 2022, Grønbæk joined Bodø/Glimt for €2.5 million.
During his two-year spell at Bodø/Glimt, Grønbæk won the Norwegian Eliteserien twice with the club.
In July 2024, Grønbæk joined Rennes for €15 million.
However, Grønbæk's time with the Ligue 1 powerhouse was short-lived.
In January 2025, Grønbæk joined Southampton on-loan.
However, during his loan spell at the Saints, the team's performance was lackluster, leading to their early relegation.
That same summer, Grønbæk joined Genoa on-loan, but was recalled early after failing to get playing time.
On the 2026 winter transfer window deadline day, Grønbæk joined Hamburg on-loan.
Last season, Grønbæk made 7 appearances for the Bundesliga club in all competitions, scoring 1 goal and providing 2 assists.
